Chapter 21: Special Plates
21.265 Yosemite Foundation License Plates (VC §5064)
Yosemite license plates are available in a sequential series or personalized with:
— Two to seven characters for automobiles, commercial vehicles, and trailers.
— Two to five characters for motorcycles.
A qualified existing ELP may be converted to a Yosemite license plate.
Yosemite License Plates belong to the owner and may be transferred to another vehicle.
Original Personalized License Plate Application—the following must be submitted:
The application must include:
A completed Special Interest License Plate Application (REG 17) form.
Original Yosemite Personalized license Plate fee.
If the REG 17 is submitted in conjunction with a registration application, the following is required:
— The usual registration and/or transfer documents and fees.
— The REG 17 and Yosemite personalized license plate fee.
— The license plates currently assigned to the vehicle must be surrendered.
Original Sequential Plate Applications—the following must be submitted:
- A completed Special Interest License Plate Application (REG 17) form.
- The registration card in the applicant’s name or the documents required to register the vehicle to the applicant.
- The license plates currently assigned to the vehicle.
- Original Yosemite Sequential license Plate fee in addition to any other fees due.
Renewal/Reassignment—Yosemite license plates require an additional fee for renewal and for reassignment of the license plates to another vehicle.
Retention—Yosemite license plates, both ELP and sequential, may be retained when the registration is not renewed if the license plate owner pays the annual retention fee.
