Replacement Title

SoCal Wildfires: Governor Newsom issued an order authorizing waivers for Californians impacted by the firestorms in the Los Angeles area. To assist in expediting the recovery, we have streamlined many services. See the Governor’s Executive Order.

DMV is in the community at local Disaster Recovery Centers in Pasadena and Los Angeles to assist in person. See the current DRC list.

Replacement items are generally delivered by mail. Update the US Postal Service with the correct address to forward your mail.

The DMV is here to help you get back on the road to recovery.

Before you begin:

  • Gather the following information / documents:

    • Your driver’s license or identification card.
    • The last 5 digits of your vehicle identification number (VIN) or hull identification number (HIN) for a vessel/boat.
    • The vehicle license plate number.

FAQ for Californians impacted by the Southern California Wildfires

Yes. DMV is present at the Southern California Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs).

Hours of Operation: 9-8 daily/7 days a week/30-day minimum   

Services available: Information requests; No-fee replacements for several vehicle registration, driver’s license, and identification products

If your DMV documents were lost or destroyed, replacement title with a fee waiver can be requested online; the website is mobile-friendly. You may also visit a DMV office to replace other documents and have applicable fees waived. 

Californians impacted by the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Lidia, and Woodley Fires in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties who lost their DMV documents in the wildfire or are late in renewing are eligible for waived fees for the following:

  • Replace Title
  • Paperless Title Certification
  • Transfer of Title with Duplicate Title
  • Registration Card
  • License Plates/Stickers
  • Transfer of Title with Paperless Title
  • CVRA Weight Decal
  • Vessel Certificate of Number
  • Disabled Person Identification Card
  • Disabled Person Parking Placard
  • Replace Driver’s License or ID Card

  • Vehicle Registration Renewal Fee not waived
  • Planned Nonoperation
