This could be the registration card, a Manufacturer&#8217;s Certificate of Origin, a Letter of Release from the lienholder, or a Bill of Sale along with a Registration Certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be prepared to pay the duplicate certificate of title <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/vehicle-registration\/registration-fees\/\">fee<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If a lienholder has the title:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete Section F <cite class=\"dmv-citation\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"259\" class=\"wp-image-424\" style=\"width: 450px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/namestatement.png\" alt=\"Name statement form.\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/uploads\/2020\/02\/namestatement.png 481w, https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/uploads\/2020\/02\/namestatement-300x162.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/cite> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\">Statement of Facts (REG 256) (PDF)<\/a> form, and add your signature to the bottom of the form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give the completed and signed REG 256 form to your lienholder and ask them to submit it (along with your title) to the DMV.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span role=\"region\" class=\"format-label--note\"><span class=\"format-label__text\">Note<\/span> If your last name is hyphenated or is multiple words, it will appear as&nbsp;<em>one word<\/em>&nbsp;on your California Certificate of Title and registration card. <strong>This&nbsp;is not&nbsp;an error and&nbsp;does not&nbsp;require correction.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-dmv-large-list-content large-list-block__list-item\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Submit your documents to DMV.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you <strong>DO<\/strong> have the title:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take your title and completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\">Statement of Facts (REG 256) (PDF)<\/a> to your local DMV office, or mail it to: <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Department of Motor Vehicles<br>Vehicle Registration Operations<br>PO Box 942869<br>Sacramento, CA 94269-0001&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do <strong>NOT<\/strong> have the title (due to loss, theft, damage):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are&nbsp;<em>correcting<\/em>&nbsp;your name on your registration (<em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;changing it), you may mail your completed REG 256 and 227 forms, evidence of ownership, and duplicate certificate of title fee to the address shown in Step 1. (You may also take it into a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/locations\"> DMV office<\/a>, if you prefer.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are&nbsp;<em>changing<\/em>&nbsp;your name on your registration (<em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;correcting it), you must submit your REG 256 and 227 forms, evidence of ownership, and duplicate certificate of title fee in person&nbsp;to&nbsp;a DMV office to complete the process.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You&nbsp;will also be asked to show your driver license or ID card <strong>and<\/strong> a valid passport, military ID, state or federal agency-issued ID, college or university-issued student ID, or ID card issued by a California-based employer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If a lienholder has the title:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once you have given your lienholder your completed REG 256 form, they will submit it to the DMV on your behalf along with your title.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have given the DMV all required documents, you can expect to receive a new registration card immediately (if in-person at a DMV office) or within 1-2 weeks by mail, and a new California Certificate of Title in about 4-6 weeks.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\t\t\t<\/ol>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-block js-accordion-block\" id=\"acc-changing-your-address\">\n\t<button class=\"accordion-block__header\" type=\"button\">\n\t\tChanging Your Address\n\t\t<span class=\"accordion-block__icon\">\n\t\t\t\n\t<svg class=\"icon icon-plus\" height=\"14\" width=\"14\" aria-hidden=\"false\" aria-labelledby=\"title-expand-accordion-plus-86772\" role=\"img\">\n\t\t<title id=\"title-expand-accordion-plus-86772\">Expand Accordion Plus<\/title>\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<use xlink:href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/wp-content\/themes\/dmv\/dist\/svg\/svg-sprite.svg?ver=1776199661#icon-plus\"><\/use>\n\t\t\t<\/svg>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<svg class=\"icon icon-minus\" height=\"2\" width=\"14\" aria-hidden=\"false\" aria-labelledby=\"title-collapse-accordion-minus-52168\" role=\"img\">\n\t\t<title id=\"title-collapse-accordion-minus-52168\">Collapse Accordion Minus<\/title>\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<use xlink:href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/wp-content\/themes\/dmv\/dist\/svg\/svg-sprite.svg?ver=1776199661#icon-minus\"><\/use>\n\t\t\t<\/svg>\n\n\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/button>\n\t<div class=\"accordion-block__content\">\n\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notify DMV of Your Change of Address<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Submit a DMV Change of&nbsp;Address request (DMV 14) using the option below that is most convenient for you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Online:<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"\/portal\/online-change-of-address-coa-system\/\">Change your address online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expect it to take up to three days for processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By mail:<\/strong>&nbsp;Download the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/notice-of-change-of-address-dmv-14-form-pdf\/\">DMV 14 form (PDF)<\/a> (or call DMV at 1-800-777-0133 to request to have the form mailed to you;
