DMV Is Not Currently Issuing Non-Domiciled CLPs\/CDLs<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DMV previously notified some non-domiciled commercial drivers that their license will be canceled.     <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notice explained that after reviewing the driver\u2019s records, the DMV found the CDL was issued incorrectly. State law requires that the expiration date of a CDL must be on or before the expiration date of the legal presence documents provided to the DMV.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 6, 2026,\u00a0DMV canceled the\u00a0licenses\u00a0of notified drivers, which includes\u00a0cancellation of\u00a0the noncommercial\u00a0Class C\u00a0driver\u2019s\u00a0license\u00a0(DL).\u00a0Once\u00a0canceled,\u00a0the license holder\u00a0will not be able to drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In accordance with Vehicle Code section 13100, the cancellation of the license is without prejudice, and drivers have the right to immediately reapply for a license. Drivers who\u202fchose to give up their CDL\u202fbefore March 6, 2026, are also entitled to immediately reapply for a non-domiciled commercial license.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To keep driving a regular car, the driver must apply for a new license.  Although DMV is not currently issuing non-domiciled CDLs\/CLPs because of a directive from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), DMV is able to issue regular Class C licenses to eligible drivers who previously held a non-domiciled CDL. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
