vehicle distributor license if you sell or distribute new vehicles to California dealers or you maintain representatives who contact dealers or prospective California dealers, and you&#8217;re not a vehicle manufacturer. You need a license if you sell or distribute:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New vehicles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New trailers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New off-highway motorcycles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New all-terrain vehicles (ATVs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>See the full list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/es\/vehicle-industry-services\/occupational-licensing\/occupational-licensure-product-list\/\">product types that currently require an occupational license<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-dmv-spacer-block spacer-box\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Apply for a Vehicle Distributor License<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All occupational license applicants must <a href=\"\/portal\/es\/vehicle-industry-services\/occupational-licensing\/login\/\">create an online account and apply online<\/a> \u2013 how-to videos and a quick start guide are available. If you experience technical issues or get locked out of your account, see <a href=\"\/portal\/es\/customer-service\/report-an-issue-or-complaint\/dmv-technical-support\/\">technical support<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When applying, have the following information and supporting documents ready to upload:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Business structure, ownership, property, and financial information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal identifying information, employment, education, and conviction history.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>List of authorized representatives, if applicable. All representatives must apply for a license and pay a licensing fee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completed <a href=\"\/portal\/es\/file\/request-for-live-scan-clearance-receipt-dmv-8016-pdf\/\">Request for Live Scan Clearance (receipt) (DMV 8016) (PDF)<\/a> for each person listed as owner (original application only). Out-of-state applicants must mail a completed Fingerprint Card (OL 1316). Contact DMV at (800) 777-0133 to request an OL 1316.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brochure or drawing of the manufactured product (include product name).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or VIN sample configuration from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sae.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Society of Automotive Engineers<\/a>. If this is a new product to California, provide a copy of the assignment of ID and testing approval or waiver from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>List of authorized or enfranchised dealers must be on company letterhead and signed by a person listed in the application documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letter of appointment from manufacturer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Secretary of State (SOS) Statement of Information (Corporation, Limited Liability Company, Partnership\/Limited Partnership) document.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your firm is incorporated in a state other than California, provide:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Articles of incorporation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certification from incorporating state\u2019s SOS that the corporation is in good standing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If \u201cdoing business as\u201d, a copy of the fictious name statement is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photographs of the business location (refer to <a href=\"\/portal\/es\/vehicle-industry-services\/occupational-licensing\/occupational-licensing-photography-requirements\/\">OL photography requirements<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Application and fees are valid for one year from submission date.
