The DMV’s open-source hybrid standard CA DMV Wallet/Mobile Driver’s License (mDL) has been recognized globally.
This application allows Californians to get their driver’s license or identification card on their smart phone for use at TSA airport security checkpoints and for age verification purposes.

Government Experience Awards
The DMV Service Advisor is an online self-service solution to support California residents on their terms.
It uses conversational language to answer queries diagnostically and guides end users to DMV services and transactions that can be completed online, like vehicle registration, ID renewal, and others.
Lien Sales Automation
AAMVA Fraud Prevention and Detection Regional Award
The DMV initiated a Lien Sales Automation (LSA) project in February 2022 to digitize information provide by lien claimants and automate the validation and verification of information provided.
The primary goals of the LSA effort are to improve processing, response times and provide data forensics to advance the department’s ability to detect and deter fraud linked to lien sale notices for vehicles valued at less than $4,000.

Innovative Program Helps LAX/United Customers Get Onboard with REAL ID
AAMVA Communications International and Regional Award
In the first of its kind event, the CA DMV teamed up with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and United Airlines (UA) to target employees and UA passengers traveling on designated days to encourage them to complete their REAL ID application at the airport.
A news conference was also held at LAX on the first day of the outreach to amplify the pilot program and encourage Californians to get their REAL ID.

AAMVA Community Service Regional Award
The DMV partners with local communities to participate in more than 200 outreach events annually that assist disaster victims, the unhoused and those who have been incarcerated.
Free or reduced fee services provided by the DMV support vulnerable communities by ensuring its members have the identification they need to participate in special programs, receive assistance, and improve their current life situation.
Vehicle Dismantler Industry Strike Team
AAMVA Excellence in Government Partnership Regional Award
The DMV Investigations Division leads 17 state and local agencies that participate on a California Vehicle Industry Dismantler Strike Team (VDIST).
The DMV coordinates enforcement and compliance activity related to unlicensed and unregulated automobile dismantling. These efforts range from protecting environmental and public health to tax evasion.
Enforcement efforts in 2022 yielded exceptional results with 332 inspections and 208 businesses cited for violations of business and professions codes, vehicle codes, and environmental laws.
